Trouble for Nigeria, other crude oil economies as Toyota, Honda produce cars that run on water

Autos, What's Hot
If you watched local TV channels at a lot in the late 2000s just like me, you must have seen that Bank PHB advert where they predicted that "one day, cars will run on water". The advert shows a man driving his car on the highway and when the fuel gauge signaled an empty tank, he stopped the car at a fueling station and refilled it with water before continuing his journey. Although Bank PHB is now defunct and transitioned into Keystone Bank or something, THAT day when cars are running on water is here and it doesn't look great for Nigeria. I will explain. World's largest car brand, Toyota, recently announced the 2020 Toyota Mirai HFC in Japan. Mirai is a Japanese word for future and the car itself is a hydrogen-powered sedan that is now being touted to replace our "normal" petrol-...

Innoson, a car manufacturer or just a company assembling cars?

Autos, What's Hot
Ever since the first set of 100 cars were rolled out from the stables of Innoson in Nnewi, a heavily industrialized city in the Southeastern Nigeria state of Anambra in November 2014, the most common question on everyone's lips seems to be: does Innoson actually manufacture cars or do they just sell assemble? This particular question dominates discussions anywhere industry experts are discussing cars and the name Innoson is mentioned, so much that people rarely have time to discuss the reliability, speed and other aspects of Innoson vehicles like they do when Toyota, Honda or Mercedes Benz is mentioned. The question was again a fiercely-argued topic at a social event yours faithfully attended last week (the event didn't even relate to technology or cars ) so I decided to address this is...

Electric cars failing already? Tesla loses $702m in three months

Autos, News
Tesla, the revolutionary company that brought practical electric battery-powered vehicles to mainstream is running into problems. The California, USA-based outfit just announced its earning reports for the first quarter of 2019 and it turns out the company blew away $702 million in losses during the first three months of the year. This is not Tesla's biggest loss yet as it lost $718m in the second quater of 2018. Tesla informed investors not to panic as it will soon be able to start turning around its fortunes for good when electric cars penetrate more markets. Billionaire founder and CEO of Tesla Elon Musk blamed the poor results on the "less than glowing trend for profitability in car manufacturing" and also said in a statement Wednesday, that as soon as the "impact of higher deliv...

I was banned from Reddit for posting that “Electric cars are not the future” (that Hydrogen cars are)

Editor's note: This is a rant article. So I found a new article on Reddit technology sub that says "UPS will start using Toyota's zero-emission hydrogen semi trucks". When I clicked on the CNET link and finished reading the article, I came back to Reddit, and said something like, "hey, I expected things like this to happen. I even have an article on my blog where I predicted Hydrogen cars taking over the world some day." And then I proceeded to get this article where I talked about how electric cars will flop because of fossil fuel being used in generating electricity to charge electric cars issues and other stuff. So, it seemed the Reddit technology subreddit is anti electric car criticism. It took about 2 minutes for some guy to comment this demeaning insult on my...

Are Mercedes Benz cars overrated and over-hyped in Nigeria?

Autos, What's Hot
Benz or nothing. Mercedes and others. You must have surely heard any of these rhetoric from Mercedes Benz admirers if you stay in Nigeria, Africa's largest country by population. In Nigeria, people - especially young people - fantasize over Mercedes Benz products as though they are magical creatures and or they are totally different from other brands'. Don't get me wrong. Mercedes are QUITE different. But do they totally worth all the hype they get here? Nigeria is one of the poorest countries in the world. With 91 million living in abject poverty, the UN believes that more poor people are found in Nigeria than anywhere else in the world. But there's a growing trend among young people in Nigeria; One that has to do with many young men between the ages of 18 and 35 driving f...

Electric cars are not the future. Here’s why

Autos, What's Hot
With all the nice things being said about electric cars and how sales of battery-powered vehicles have been soaring recently, its common to see analysts predicting that electric cars will replace combustion engine cars in the nearest future. But that's not true my friend. Electric cars explained Electric vehicles (EVs) do not require fossil fuels like diesel or petrol to function neither do they litter the air with carbon-filled smoke when they run. The concept of EVs is to reduce global warming caused by combustion engine or fuel cars. When you charge an EV, a large quantity of electrical energy in stored in high capacity battery cells under the cabin or hood. After charging, the energy is then used to power the vehicle to travel distances. This way, there's no smoke...

Is Lexus the number one luxury car in the world?

Autos
With its creation as the luxury car arm of Toyota in 1989, like a Mission Impossible stunt, Lexus has shot into limelight and has remained on everyone's lips since then. Before the advent of Lexus, not many believed that Asians, especially the Japanese could make really nice luxurious cars that will not only compete but would try to oust the German machines like Mercedes and BMW from the throne of luxurious vehicles. The people behind Lexus have remained keen to keep pushing the brand to higher levels with each passing day, such that over 327,838 units of Lexus-labeled cars were sold in the first six months of 2018. As things get more interesting, word on the street is that Lexus has become one of the best, if not the best, among the well-known household luxury car brands. Is Lexus

There are many insurance companies in the world giving their life insurance quote. It’s pretty difficult to pick which one is the best. What should you do? One strategy that’ll work is to keep switching insurance companies. Any company will make more money by selling to people who are more price sensitive. A person needing an insurance may be willing to pay high. A person who keeps switching insurance shows that he is price sensitive and hence, he will get a lower price. Your life is not the only thing you can insure. You can also insure your house and your car. There are many websites offering free car insurance quotes and home insurance quotes. There are usually two types of life insurances. Term Insurance Term insurance is paying the life insurance while betting that y
