“Social media strike” commences on June 4th

Internet, What's Hot
Some folks on the Internet are saying they will stay off social media on June 4th and June 5th as a way of showing dissatisfaction to the way social media platforms are being run. In a memo found on one LarrySanger.org, there's a proposal for something called "Declaration of Digital Independence" and the folks over there have launched a Change.org petition for people to show support to the cause and to stay clear of social media during the two-day strike starting on Thursday. Digital Independence as they put it, includes having full control of all private data belonging to a user by the user. They also want big social networks to stop acting like "silos" and allow posts to be seen across other social networks when posted on one. So far 512 people have signed the "Declaration of Di...

However, its downsides include occasional dropouts and no way to select specific server to use. Cactus VPN It performs with high speed, extremely easy to set up and affordable at $4.89 per month. Its downside is its poor customer support which is irregular and not available 24/7. Express VPN Express VPN is heavy-duty and has extremely fast spe...

On January 21, South Africa experienced something that can be described as a "Level 3 Massive Internet Outage." Local users battled on the use of the Internet in the afternoon of that day. Afrihost has reported that there were major international link problems brought about by the downtime of the West African Cable System (WACS) and Seacom undersea cable systems. Seacom has also explained that the connectivity problem was caused by civil construction activity. The company has mentioned that their Northern Trans-Egypt and Southern Trans-Egypt routes were damaged in areas near Cairo. It took Seacom 2 hours and 40 minutes to repair the cable problems. On the other hand, WACS also experienced an outage due to a terrestrial system in the UK.

Internet, News, Technology: General, What's Hot
Twitter is going through a process that is seeing a total revamp of the company and with the amount of changes we're seeing these days, its hard to even keep up at all with them anymore. The new wave started with the announcement that the social platform is looking to increase the tweet count from 140 characters to a still unknown number, then followed the launch of the Twitter Moments which we must say, is a laudable improvement over the ordinary hashtag feature. Then and again, Twitter introduced the ad for Moments feature and now, they have come with yet another feature as Twitter replaces the Favorite (star) feature that we've been used to over years with the Love (Heart) symbol. This means that we can no longer choose tweets to be favorites, but we can express our love for them. You...

Google has now sought to help us eradicate the need to always check our phones when a new mail comes in and saves us the stress of having to compose reply mails every time as the Android Open Source maker looks to tie those loose ends for us. The key would be integrating two different but mutually dependent AIs in the Google Mail application. What they would do is pretty simple. One of these AIs would be responsible for reading out your messages while the other tries to ...
