Facebook, the world’s most popular social networking site, has now crossed the landmark of 120 million active African users as per official statistics from June 2015.
Facebook also announced that more than 80 percent of African visitors access the social networking platform with their phones. The company also boasted that 60 % of African Internet users visited Facebook at least once during the month.
Facebook authorities said that the number of users was 100 million in September 2014 and the number reached 120 million during June 2015. It was a huge increase of 20% in just 6 months time. Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya have a total of 16.6 million active internet users daily and the figure is 31.5 million active users on a monthly basis.
Facebook has opened its first office in Africa so that they can expand their business operations here.
Facebook’s Regional Director for MEA Ari Kesisoglu said that “we are committed to creating solutions tailored to people and businesses in Africa. We continue to spend time with businesses to learn about how we can work together to create better, more flexible and less fragmented ways for businesses to reach people in Africa.”
