The VC4Africa platform has been around for a while, most notably for its allowance of companies and innovative entrepreneurs spanning the length and breadth of Africa to display themselves. VC4Africa has provided these entrepreneurs the perfect place to take their brand to the people. The growing community and ventures that are present on this platform has enabled it to extract information that are much needed over others and likewise, identify the things that makes the continents go round. The increasing membership has allowed for the platform to identify the key trends that run the sphere of our continent Africa.
VC4Africa then announced yesterday that its data is now open to anyone who cares to have access to them. This data release was done via their API. Some of the uses of the data on its website right now is to display the subset of ventures among others.
“We’re also committed to organizing this data and making it more accessible. To that end, we’re excited to announce that our venture data is now open and available to anyone with an interest in exploring it,” co-founder of VC4Africa, Bill Zimmerman explained in a statement.
“As a nexus for a large volume of entrepreneurial activity, we’re in a unique position to crowd-source primary data on the African venture space. We’re also committed to organizing this data and making it more accessible,” Zimmerman added.
Before this development, VC4Africa had received requests from several ventures who had asked to embed its ventures map or display subsets of the platform’s ventures data. This open data would now allow the users of the platform to know the amount of firms in each zone and sector, determine the amount that have been successfully fundraised and those that are excluded from the data sets.
