The Bank Verification Number (BVN) registration programme is one of the initiatives launched by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in its aims and quest to transform Nigeria into a cashless society and put us up there in line with the rest of the world practicing these elite measures.
Over the past few months, banking staffs have taken it upon themselves to always inquire when you enter the bank if you’ve done your BVN or not. So after registering, instead of going to the bank and locking yourself as well as other people in long queues just to check your number, why don’t you take the easy way out and check with your mobile phone?
The upside of this plan is that when checking with your mobile phone, you need neither Internet access nor a special / designated application. All you need do is
• Dial *565*0#
This number should be dialed on the same GSM line you used for your registration. This service should give you your BVN and it comes at a cost of #10.
Asides from promoting the cashless society, the BVN also ensures that you have a unique identity you can use across all banks and also, gives your account better security. The deadline has been set to the 31st October.
