South Africa’s Naspers launches ‘ShowMax’ VOD service to compete Netflix

It’s once again show timeĀ  for video-on-demand consumers in South Africa as locals Naspers gets set to launch a “Netflix killer,” ShowMax, this week.

The curtains will be raised off Showmax on the 19th August 2015 (Wednesday), revealing a VOD that is targeted at bringing the cheapest rates to viewers. To emphasize onĀ  that, Mybroadband has arranged a price table to rank ShowMax among all the services available in the country right now:

To top it off, ShowMax, is bringing free streaming into the pack with ‘ShowMax Basic’ and this move should be a hard knock on US-based Netflix who is the current market leader in SA.

Naspers has announced it will kick off ShowMax with the streaming of top rated motion pictures like True Blood, Ray Donovan, Vikings and The Big Bang Theory.
