Youtube has been around for a while now and they have made themselves a brand to reckon with when it comes to online videos. Boasting millions of subscribers and several million videos more, Youtube has become the hub of activities when it comes to getting videos online for various reasons, but now, it is to be known for more than its video streaming capabilities.
Youtube is planning to turn the originally non-profit website into a mega profit making venture by allowing users buy products directly from its videos. This new initiative is expected to increase the revenue base of the Youtube brand and of course, help users to monetize their videos and market their products.
Consequentially, we might be looking at the next big thing in the advertisement industry as this would help more people push their products to the mainstream and increase the volume of sales given their several millions of users.
“Over the last couple of years, we’ve discovered that there’s a lot of content on YouTube that actually is things like how-to videos, reviews, tutorials—things that people look at to research things to buy,” said YouTube’s head of advertising, Diya Jolly.
The proposed plan features a small ad that shows at the top of videos played which would not obstruct the video play in any way. The ad pop-up is also expected to come in a drop-down fashion which allows users to browse through the options of articles that is available for purchase. Google is expected to be the source of these ads and would consequently be responsible for which ads get paired to what videos.
This would be a huge boost for the African market likewise. Being a community where the use of the internet is fast-growing and ever-expanding, exposure of goods would be made easier to the African online presence better.
